1. VRF / VRV (Variable Refrigerant Flow)
This system uses a single large outdoor unit that can be connected to dozens of indoor units. It uses refrigerant (Freon) directly as the cooling medium. It is very energy efficient because the compressor intelligently adjusts to the load of each room.
2. Chiller (Cold Water System)
A chiller does not pump Freon into the building. It cools water on the roof or in the basement, and that chilled water is then pumped into the building to serve AHUs or FCUs. It is suitable for very large buildings or factories.
3. AHU (Air Handling Unit)
Not a cooling source, but a distribution box. The AHU takes chilled water from the chiller, blows it through a large coil, and distributes the cool air through ductwork to large spaces (such as halls or malls).
